Microsoft CRM 3 Installation Issues

Microsoft CRM 3 was released at the tail end of 2005 but already people are reporting problems installing it on Microsoft Small Business Server. Luckily our research has revealed this thread and this blog posting on a few of the most common problems.

iTunes - Quicktime Vulnerability

A great deal of publicity has been cited against the WMF vulnerability but very little has been directed towards iTunes and Quicktime vulnerabilities that are every bit as dangerous. In fact, they could be considered worse as they are cross platform: both MAC and Windows versions of the Apple software are affected.

See Secunia Quicktime Multiple Vulnerability webpage and Beware of Strange iTunes/QuickTime Movies for the full alarming details on the nature of the issues and how to mitigate the risks from exploits.

Keeping Track of Your Book Library

Keep track of your books online by using an interesting new concept from Library Thing.

WMF Vulnerability Patched Early

Microsoft have released a patch for the WMF vulnerability that was such a cause for concern. Check out our earlier blog posting if you are unsure of the nature of the vulnerability.

The security advisory MS06-001 provides further details and download locations for the update. This patch is also available from Windows and Microsoft update sites.

New Version of Skype

The latest version of Skype has a wealth of new features: it now features video along with an array of other product enhancements.

Sharepoint Like Theme Comment Hack

The Wordpress Sharepoint Like theme, along with some others, has a problem where the comment text box doesn’t word-wrap properly. This is now fixed with a simple hack we derived from some sample code provided by Craig Murphy. According to Craig, the fix comes from Wordpress developer Mike Little.

The fix involves modifying the comments.php file within the theme.

Look for the following line:
Original theme code segment

Change it to:
Modified theme code segment

All that we have added is
style=”width:35em”

This fix should also work for other themes that have a similar problem.

Microsoft Advertising Starting to Look Good

Honda have great advertisments and we’ve all seen the brilliant IBM advertisements but alas Microsoft offerings have been pretty poor in comparison. Many in the industry have been complaining to Microsoft for a very long time about the quality of their general media marketing.

It looks like the worm is starting to turn with Microsoft producing some half decent adverts:

  • Furry Creature Ad
  • Lift Ad
  • These are certainly heading in the correct direction. We hope you enjoy watching them.
