I am kicking myself for not making an image of my dying XP hard drive.
I’ve lost the CD key for the XP install disc and all of a sudden Installshield crashes on me whenever I try install anything not designed for Vista. I’ve seen people go to Installshield’s website, download the newest engine, and fix their problems.
I have one problem: when I run the program to install Installshield’s new engine…. it crashes!
I can’t believe I haven’t found anyone else with this problem after some intensive google searching. I even used MS Live to search for answers.
This all seems to have started when I tried to uninstall Creative Labs drivers (random setup.exe crashes). I killed UAC and DEP in a vain attempt to get things running but no dice.
This dual boot idea is tempting. I really need to find my old keys.

There is a Microsoft KB article on restoring XP or in other words, getting rid of Vista!

We had a customer laptop a few months ago that had a sound driver that couldn’t be reinstalled without doing a complete Toshiba recovery disk install! Googling revealed the sound chipset was causing the same issue regardless of computer manufacturer. Ggggrrrr!
