Sage Username in Use Problem
A customer phoned this evening despondent about Sage Instant Accounts not restarting after an earlier program crash. When he tried to start it up it would report:
Username in use
The solution is fairly straight forward: delete the “QUEUE.DTA” file from the ACCDATA folder, which is usually found in one of the subfolders of the Sage program files install directory e.g. c:\Program Files\Sage\Accounts or c:\Program Files\Instant.
Sage should fire up as normal after deleting this file.
More information can be found here if you need it.
If you run into trouble finding the directory or file then try a file search with QUEUE.DTA as the filename you’re interested in finding.

Hi.
Have tried this and it hasn’t worked. Any other suggestions?

Sorry this is the only fix we’ve ever used for this problem.
You could try one of the many Sage support forums.
Alternatively, give Sage a call and pay for the support.

Can anyone help me. I was using sage line 50 when there was a poewer cut in the house. When I started the computer up again I did not take the yes option when I was asked if I wanted to check the data. Now I can’t get into sage as I am being told that the original user is still logged on so I can’t gain access !

Sorry if you’ve followed the suggestion in this article and you are still unable to start-up Sage then you should probably contact Sage support.

Another happy bunny here – worked perfectly. We also had a power cut. I even tried reinstalling the software but still the same. I’ve lots of work to do over the weekend and I was getting increasingly frustrated. Then, the source of answers to lots of questions – Google it!
Many thanks
Mike

Yet another “happy customer”.
It is amazing this information isn’t readily available on the Sage website.

Hi there
I don’t suppose any of the people this did not work for got back in touch with a fix. I have deleted the QUEUE.DTA and it is still coming up with the username in use message. I have seached all program files so there is not an another file lurking somewhere. (me thinks sage builds this in to a program so you have to buy a newer version). I have version 8 – the beautiful simple thing – so there is no support available!!!

Sorry no one has come back with other fixes.
Problems with Sage make for a compelling reason “to be sold” Sage Cover.
You could try asking on the Sage Forum.

Hi. I did eventually find a solution, sorry can’t quite remeber where I found the file, but it will be lurking there somewhere, maybe within the tempory folder which i don’t think the computer searches automatically. Hope this helps, will try and remember more for you.

Hi again, Been trying to think and it might be that there is a queue file within the sage folder, in demo data, accdata folder that may need deleting. I know there is another one somewhere that needs to be deleted before you can go in.
Can you let me know how you get on
January 22nd, 2010 at 10:38 pm
Oh thanks very much, i had already found the demo data one and deleted that one aswell. Can’t see another one though. Was it still called QUEUE.dta? Not to worry i was thinking of uninstalling it and starting again.

Uninstalling and reinstalling doesn’t work in our experience. Just like many other applications, Sage leaves enough remnants of the previous install around for it to impact the reinstall.
You really need to find the spurious QUEUE.DTA file that may be kicking around. Ensure you’re looking at all files on your system by showing hidden and system files in Windows Explorer.
To see hidden files:
1. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options.
2. Click the View tab.
3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.
Note To access Windows Explorer, click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Windows Explorer.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, persevered with finding the hidden queue.dta file and saved me hours of work for completing a financial year end

Thank you SO much. Solved the problem in all of 2 seconds despite having spent hours and hours trying to solve it myself!
